CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

Thank you for participation in the 10th Anniversary edition of our annual CERBA Eurasia Construction and Infrastructure Conference!

The Conference provided an excellent opportunity to preserve and strengthen the existing ties between Canada and Eurasia and to establish new ones to the economic benefit of all the trading countries in these regions in the sphere of infrastructure and construction. Notwithstanding the difficult geopolitical situation nowadays we are determined to continue advancing the goals of our core membership in Eurasia. The markets in focus of the conferencing parties this year have been: Russia, Kazakhstan and Georgia.

The main themes of the event were covered by 2 panels of distinguished speakers. The panelists delivered a brief presentation (link to presentations) of their views to cover the main program points and participated in a heated discussion led by Bill Hutchison of Hutchison Management International Inc, Distinguished Research Fellow, Munk School, University of Toronto.

One of the most interesting discussion results was a shortlist of ideas for removing the barriers for international trade in the Construction and Infrastructure sector:

  • Lower RED TAPE
  • Create a special simplified visa corridor for business (e.g. Canadians don’t require visa to go to Georgia already)
  • Travel to the market as often as possible and meet with your Eurasian counterparts at CERBA events and other for a
  • Ask your Canadian peers who already work in the market for advice

The event was supported by 2 partners and members – the Ministry of Citizenship, Immigration and Trade Development and Schneider Group – we sincerely thank them for their contributions.

We would also like to thank Construct Canada’s team, international division for working closely with us along the months of preparation and contributing to the program of the conference.

We’d also like to a thank our information partners:

  • Toronto Region Board of Trade
  • British Canadian Chamber of Trade and Commerce
  • Canada-Armenia Business Council
  • Macedonia Economic Summit
and such collaborators as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development; Metrolinx/UP Express and the City of Toronto for providing an opportunity for the Eurasian delegates to learn about the industry practices in Canada.

The highlight of the event was the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding with the All-Russian Non-Governmental Organization of Small and Medium Business “OPORA RUSSIA”. OPORA Russia is one of the 2 largest non-profit organizations in Russia servicing about 450,000 entrepreneurs who cumulatively employ over 5,000,000 people in the Russian Federation. The agreement between CERBA and OPORA will ensure the exchange of information on topics of relevance to the members of both Associations and assist them with improved communication and offer invaluable networking opportunities at future joint events.

We are looking forward to seeing you at our conference in December 2016 - registration is already open!
